Our Practice

Dentistry on Merivale is a long-standing practice, most recently operated by Dr. Michael Olmstead, an exceptionally skilled practitioner with an excellent reputation across New Zealand. Once Mike made the decision to (semi) retire he set out to find a clinician with the same practice philosophy who would be keen to carry on in this very successful practice.

In February 2010 Dentistry on Merivale was taken over by Dr. David Walsh, a dentist with whom Dr. Olsmstead had worked side by side with for 2 years when they each first arrived in NZ several years ago. With very similar training, experience, and professional belief systems, the transition was seamless and Michael and David remain good friends and professional colleagues.

Dentistry on Merivale Policies

Office Hours

Clinic hours are Monday to Friday, from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

All treatments are by appointment only.

After Hours

Dr Walsh can be reached on his mobile for after-hours emergencies, and if he is unavailable a designated on-call dentist will have been arranged. Just ring the office, and the contact number(s) will be on a recorded message

Emergencies

We will always make room for you on the same day that you ring us if you are in pain, but please ring as early in the day as you can. We do keep times open every day for clients who may need urgent attention. This time is usually just before lunch, so we do need to hear from you in the morning for this time to be offered.

Fees

All fees will be explained ahead of any treatment for which they will be incurred. A written estimate will be made available prior to your treatment appointment(s).

Payment in full is expected at the time the treatment is provided.

Appointments

We work hard to be on time and seat you within 10 minutes of your appointed time. Occasionally, for reasons beyond our control, we may run later than this. If this is the case, we will do our best to contact you before your appointment time to let you know that we are running late and give you the option to reschedule your time if you would prefer. We realize that your time is important to you and ask that you afford us the same respect by being on time for your appointment and providing at least 24 hours notice if you find you are unable to attend. A fee will be levied for appointments failed or cancelled with less than 24 hours notice.

Continuity of Care

All clients are placed on a recall system, within which re-care appointments will be pre-booked. We find this is the most reliable way to ensure the best possible ongoing care for our patients.

With this in mind, we also very strongly recommend that all our clients see our hygienist on a regular basis and we prefer to pre-book these appointments as well.

The time between these recall appointments is based on the individual needs of each patient, and is generally once or twice a year.
